I just recently purchased this vogue pattern, although it is a few years old. I am not really one who sticks to trends, but more in tune to what resonates with me. This dress just spoke to me. And who doesn’t love a comfortable knit dress. This was a pretty easy dress to make, and I would highly recommend it to a beginner. The style is a classic and there is enough ease in the dress to accommodate all body shapes.
I cut the dress on a size 16 based on the measurements on the pattern. I did have to make a few adjustments. The sleeves were too long for me, so I cut them down two inches and I had to tighten my cuff by an inch. This minor adjustment made a big difference in the final appearance. The dress fit is comfortable, but I had to take it in several inches to get a nicer fit. The attached tie on the dress did a decent job of hiding some of the slack in the side when it was tided. I will make this dress again in another color, but this time I will cut it on the size 14. Another adjustment I made was to the length. I cut 4″ off the length of the skirt so the dress would be knee length.
I made this dress with a hunter green knit fabric that I purchased from Fabric Universe. It is a beautiful green with a nice texture which adds more interest. I used my gutterman polyester thread to sew the knit fabric with no problems. I finished the seams and hem with gutterman polyester serger thread. The hem is finished with my cover stitch for a professional finish.
