Erin Dress – My first Indie Pattern

Erin Dress My first indie pattern

For this month’s sew your view sew along, we are making the Erin dress by Style Sew Me. This is my first indie pattern. The pattern has two views. Both dresses are over sized and roomy and will accommodate any body shape. I chose to make view B which has a trendy tie at the bottom of each side of the dress.

The dress was a breeze to sew, with very few pattern pieces. It has nice size pockets as well as a trendy tie feature at the bottom of the dress. The one thing I do not like about the dress is the fact that the arm is connected to the bodice in one piece. In my opinion, a separate sleeve that is sewn to the bodice is always a nicer and more comfortable fit, as it contours to my body better. The plus side to the way the sleeve is constructed is that the pattern on my fabric did not break up. This is one of the main reasons I selected the fabric for this dress. This style is also much easier to sew for beginners.

I used a chevron print peach skin fabric that has been in my stash for a few years now. Since the sleeve and the bodice was all in one piece, the pattern matching was a breeze. It took only an hour to sew this dress, and the fit is really comfortable. This is my very first experience with an indie pattern designer, and I must say I am not disappointed. The instructions were super easy to read, and the printed pattern shipped out to me quickly. I will definitely be giving more of Style Sew Me patterns a try, as well as looking into more indie patterns.
